Principal

I have the great privilege of leading learning here at Kaikōura Primary School. I am passionate about ensuring high expectations for all our learners and maintaining our caring and inclusive school culture, where everyone belongs. On a personal note, I live on a dairy farm with my husband and our five children and I really enjoy helping out on the farm in my spare time.
Sarah
Office Manager
I really enjoy working at Kaikōura Primary School. After four years as a teacher aide, I stepped into the office manager role and enjoy the fast-paced nature of the office, where no two days are the same. One of the best parts of my role is still being able to see and interact with the children every day.
Outside of school, my husband and I have two children. I keep busy with an ever-growing list of hobbies and after school activites and feel very lucky to call Kaikōura home.

Karen
Harakeke Class Teacher/Deputy Principal
I believe teaching and learning are things we all do every day of our lives. As a teacher, it is my privilege to find teachable moments where I can use the children’s passion to build their knowledge and confidence.
We have a busy family, our children are almost all grown up and we have 2 precious granddaughters. I love animals and have horses and dogs with who I share a very outdoors life.
Stef
Pōhutukawa Class Teacher
Kia ora koutou, I’m Stef (Mrs H), and I am the Year 2 teacher in Pōhutukawa Class.
I completed my Bachelor of Education in 2006 and have worked in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand in a variety of roles, from New Entrants through to Year 7. I really enjoy working with our Year 2 learners, supporting them to build strong foundational skills in literacy and numeracy. This is such an important stage for students as they develop confidence, positive learning habits, friendships, and a strong sense of belonging, and I feel privileged to be part of that journey.
I am originally from Western Australia and moved to Kaikōura in 2017. My husband was born here and attended Kaikōura Primary as a student, and we now have two children currently enrolled at the school. We are also very fortunate to have a large and close extended family living here in town.

McKenzie
Kowhai Class Teacher
Kia ora koutou,
I am the Year 3 kaiako in Kōwhai class. I originally grew up in the picturesque town of Kaikōura and feel very lucky to call this beautiful place home. It’s an incredible place to work, I even get to see dolphins from my classroom!
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time outdoors fishing, playing tennis, and walking my dog. Family is very important to me, and I love spending time with them whenever I can.

Kia ora koutou
After arriving in Aotearoa on my travels from the UK I immediately wanted to stay! I have lived around the top of the South Island since 2005, teaching since 2013 (part-time since having a young family). I enjoy the unique environment that Kaikōura has to offer and love getting out both in and on the ocean.
As both a teacher and parent at KPS, I value the great facilities, resources and space at our kura as well as the fantastic staff and tamariki who create a welcoming, caring and inclusive culture.

Nick
Mānuka Class Teacher
I am originally from the South West of the UK but am proud to call Kaikōura my home. Kaikōura Primary School is an amazing place to teach, the open spaces and sea views make for an excellent learning environment. I am passionate about the outdoors and the arts which I integrate into my lessons wherever possible. Mānuka class is a kind, diligent, and fun place to learn, with every child experiencing success (in some shape or form) every day. I strongly believe that children should be active participants, not placid recipients of their education, and my work with Mānuka class is underpinned by this belief.
Bec
Totara Class Teacher
Hi, I’m Rebecca, and I’m lucky enough to be the Year 6 teacher starting in 2026. I am passionate about creating a positive, supportive classroom where students feel confident to learn and lead. I have many years of teaching experience and enjoy helping students develop not only their academic skills, but also kindness, courage, and respect.
I have a strong interest in student leadership and value building positive relationships with students, whānau, and the wider Kaikōura community. I feel privileged to work at Kaikōura Primary School, where I attended school, and most importantly, I feel excited to support our learners during such an important stage of their schooling.

Kia ora koutou, my name is Deb. I have lived in Kaikōura nearly all of my life and couldn’t think of a better place to be. In my younger years, I attended Kaikōura Primary School, and it’s an honour to be back here as a Learning Assistant. I have one daughter, and my hobbies are spending time with her, playing netball, swimming and spending time with my family.
Tania

After 8 years as a learning assistant, I continue to enjoy the caring learning environment at KPS. I especially enjoy supporting connections with so many students across the different classes. It continues to be a privilege to share in the learning journey of so many wonderful students.

Nigel
Caretaker/Groundsman
I have been the caretaker for going on 5 years in November 2022 and both my children attended KPS. I have a long history with the school from my time working as a local builder and being on the BOT during the rebuild of our school. I enjoy my work here because it is so varied and on a fine day you couldn’t ask for a better office because of our location.
